1,000 scholarships for poor, disabled children Posted: Apr 21,2009
The Bao Viet Life Insurance Corp. will present 1,000 scholarships totaling 500 million VND to poor and disabled children, AO victims and children of martyrs and wounded soldiers with outstanding academic performance results this year.
An agreement to this effect was signed between the donor and the Vietnam Fund for Children (VFC) under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs in Hanoi on April 14.
This was the fifth consecutive year that the VFC and Bao Viet have coordinated in implementing the annual scholarship programme, which is part of VFC’s educational assistance programme, conducted since 1994.
By 2008, the programme granted nearly 24,400 scholarships worth 13.7 billion VND in total for these children. The funding was primarily sourced by domestic and foreign individuals and organisations, including Bao Viet Life Insurance, Prudential Life Insurance, Phu My Hung Joint Venture Co, Ltd., Comvik International Vietnam AB Co., Chevron Vietnam Co., and the sponsoring association for Vietnamese AO children in France.
This year, the VFC plans to give around 3,000 scholarships totaling 1.7 billion VND to selected children.
