Mrs. World 2009 Chairman praises Vietnam
Posted: Nov 10,2009

VietNamNet Bridge – To prepare for the Mrs. World 2009 pageant, Mrs. World Organisation Chairman David Z. Marmel has been in Vietnam since October 28. He recently spoke with the press about the pageant.

VietNamNet: At international beauty pageants, the final nights are often organized by the organizing board, not the host country. Vietnam hosted Miss Universe 2008, but the final evening was prepared by American experts. Why has Mrs. World Organisation assigned Vietnam to take care of the job, including choosing art items?

David Z. Marmel: We originally planned to bring a team of experts of Star World TV to Vietnam like NBC did for Miss Universe 2008. However, our survey showed that technicians of Vietnam Television (HCM City branch) are qualified enough.

I watched art performances on the final night of Mrs. Vietnam 2009 and I was impressed by the drum show of the Lotus Troupe, the performance by the Red Sun troupe, the presentation by kids and the ao dai piece.

I plan to contact the Vietnamese organizers of the Mrs. World 2009 to introduce similar performances to the world on the final night of the Mrs. World 2009.

VietNamNet: At the Miss Universe pageant, the contestant of the host country often enters the top 15. How about Mrs. World?

Marmel: At this moment, 92 countries and territories have registered for the event. Representatives of 74 countries have completed visa procedures. We will choose the top 12, then top 6, top 3 and finally the beauty queen.

I can’t predict whether Vietnam’s representative will enter the top 12 or receive any title because it depends on their ability. Mrs. World must meet two criteria: beautiful and successful. The jury decides.

VietNamNet: Could you reveal something about the jury or the international artists who will perform on the final night?

Marmel: I’m afraid that I can’t share their names. I can only say that they are famous people in various fields from different countries.

VietNamNet: Are there any concerns for the crowning night on November 22?

Marmel: At this moment, I and my crew are very confident and we don’t worry at all because the Vietnamese government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Public Security, the Foreign Ministry, the Vietnam Women’s Union and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province have warmly supported us, besides the great effort from the CIAT company.

I strongly believe that the pageant will be successful, with interesting and amazing things to impress the world. This will be a chance to introduce the potential of a beautiful, friendly, safe and peaceful Vietnam to the world.

"... From the beginning of the first century A.D., when the two Trung Sisters rose up to fight the enemy and save the nation, until now, whenever our country has faced danger, our women have contributed whatever they could toward the cause of national liberation.

Our people are grateful that our mothers from South and North alike have borne and raised our nation's generation of heroes....

Under the Socialist system, tens of thousands of women have become specialists in different fields and, as cadre, serve as directors and vice-directors of factories, leaders of farming cooperatives, presidents of People’s Committees, and general secretaries of Party Cells....

And so, the women of Vietnam from ancient times until now, from South to North, from young to old, are truly heroes ..."
