A grand ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ben Tre (Concerted Uprising) (January 17, 1960 – January 17, 2010) was held by the Ben Tre province’s People’s Council, the People’s Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front on January 17.

At the ceremony, Truong Tan Sang, Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee stressed that: “The great victory of the Concerted Uprising movement in Ben Tre and the South is a convincing proof of the role and the strength of the people and their absolute belief in the leading role of the Party and Uncle Ho”. “The movement also showed the strict implementation and the innovative application of the Party Resolution in the local revolutionary reality”, he added.

Truong Tan Sang said: “I am very pleased to see that over the past 50 years, the Party Committee and the people of Ben Tre province have upheld the Concerted Uprising tradition and applied experience from the movement in promoting the people’s strength in the national liberation and defence cause. The leaders of Ben Tre province also launched a movement titled “New Concerted Uprising” which drew the support of people from all walks of life.”

On this occasion, President Nguyen Minh Triet signed a Decision no. 2057/QĐ-CTN to bestow the title People’s Armed Forces Hero to the Ben Tre’s Armed Forces.

The ceremony concluded with parades, flower parades and fireworks display which attracted thousands of local people.

* on the same day, a solemn ceremony was jointly held by the Vietnamese Women’s Association and the High Command of Military Zone 7 in Ho Chi Minh City to mark the 50th anniversary of the ‘Long hair army’ (January 17, 1960 – January 17, 2010).

At the ceremony, Ha Thi Khiet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilisation said that the history of the national construction and defence is always associated with heroic Vietnamese women.

To follow the victory of the ‘Long hair army’, Vietnamese women nowadays have actively joined together in the national construction and defence and they deservedly live up to the tradition of  being ‘active, creative, loyal, industrious’ of Vietnamese women in the renewal period.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese Women’s Association presented Savings Books of gratitude worth VND 340 million to 68 women in 34 southern provinces and cities who had joined the ‘Long hair army’.

"... From the beginning of the first century A.D., when the two Trung Sisters rose up to fight the enemy and save the nation, until now, whenever our country has faced danger, our women have contributed whatever they could toward the cause of national liberation.

Our people are grateful that our mothers from South and North alike have borne and raised our nation's generation of heroes....

Under the Socialist system, tens of thousands of women have become specialists in different fields and, as cadre, serve as directors and vice-directors of factories, leaders of farming cooperatives, presidents of People’s Committees, and general secretaries of Party Cells....

And so, the women of Vietnam from ancient times until now, from South to North, from young to old, are truly heroes ..."
