Vietnamese American girl collects shoes for orphans Posted: Oct 26,2009
A Vietnamese American girl, Paulina Nguyen from Santa Catalina in California, US, has created her own charity fund by collecting shoes for Vietnamese orphans, according to the Monterey County Herald newspaper.
During her first trip to Vietnam in 2007, Paulina Nguyen visited an orphanage and saw children walking barefoot.
On returning to the US, she established the Soles4Orphans fund with the aim of collecting money to purchase shoes for Vietnamese orphans. This year, her fund has received US$3,400, which will be used to purchase shoes for these kids during her upcoming trip to Vietnam in December.
Nguyen first began collecting shoes in 2007 and she returned to Vietnam with 500 pairs of shoes in June 2008. She also used some of the donated money to buy an additional 200 pairs of sandals in Vietnam and distributed them to orphanages, charity centres in pagodas and churches.
