Vietnam Women's Union is ready to cooperate in building modern and ecological agriculture

On the morning of June 2, Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) President Ha Thi Nga attended the "Meeting on the coordination mechanism to support farmers in harvesting and selling agricultural products in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic" coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD). This activity will contribute to building ecological agriculture, modern countryside, smart farmers and improving the lives of rural people.

Attending the meeting were leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Vietnam Women's Union, Vietnam Farmers' Union and Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

At the meeting, MARD Minister Le Minh Hoan introduced the cooperation program with socio-political organizations focusing on encouraging farmers and unions’ members to change their mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economic; participating in the collective economy; participating in new rural area construction; promoting agricultural start-ups, knowledge and skills training and digital transformation in agriculture.

Speaking at the meeting, VWU President Ha Thi Nga said that the Women's Unions at all levels had implemented many practical activities in recent years to encourage and support women to participate in rural and agricultural development such as supporting the establishment of 656 new cooperatives managed by women; providing capacity building trainings, supporting many startup ideas, developing OCOP products (in the program One Commune One Product), strengthening the connection of the value chain for women’s products, organizing start-up contests with the theme "Women start-ups to promote OCOP products" in 2021, etc.

Ms. Nga also affirmed that VWU would be determined to implement the cooperation program focusing on communicating and encouraging members, women to support farmers in harvesting and selling agricultural products; mobilizing and guiding members and women to participate in the collective economy, especially agricultural cooperatives; supporting the building of female-owned cooperative models and creating jobs for female workers; building models of women participating in new rural area construction, rural economic development and agricultural start-up.

At the same time, the VWU is ready to collaborate with the MARD, socio-political organizations in agricultural vocational training programs, providing knowledge and skills of agricultural economics and sustainable development for female farmers; connecting the supply and demand chains of agricultural products; marketing agricultural products; providing digital transformation knowledge for agricultural enterprises and female-owned cooperatives; and in other agricultural extension programs and models.

Based on that spirit, since June 7, 2021, the VWU has launched “a sale point” at 68 Nguyen Chi Thanh in Hanoi to support with selling agricultural products for the localities affected by the Covid-19 epidemic.

 A sale point strictly follows the process of quality monitoring (product traceability) and COVID-19 prevention measures.
