2008 Global Summit of Women

After 18 years of operation, Global  Summit of Women has become a reputable international forum that links and assembles prestigious and influential women to petition to Governments about the solution for business problems and gender equality in the global economy. The Summit has established and broadened a global network of businesswomen,  built up the database about the percentage of women in management boards of big corporations and international companies in the last 10 years in all over continents; summarized practices and shared experiences o­n successful business management; discussed o­n problems that women are facing now both globally, regionally and domestically. The Summit also creates vehicle for business women to network with partners; to identify investment and business opportunities, to apprise outstanding businesswomen who are effectively contribute to national economies.

This summit is held annually and rotated up to continents. This year, Asia – the most economically dynamic region of 21st century - is selected to be the host of this event.

It is a great honor for Vietnam to organize the 18th Global Summit of Women, supposed to be in June, 2008. Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry is assigned to preside over this event together with the Central Vietnamese Women Union; Hanoi People’s Committee; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; related Ministries and International Convention Organization Board.

The theme for this year is “Women and Asia- Driving the Global Economy”. Main content includes:

• Innovations in micro-enterpreneurship
• Doing business in Asia: avoiding cultural chasms
• Balancing work and life
• Fight against woman trafficking….

Besides the main program, Vietnam also organizes different important activities such as: “Doing business in Vietnam” Forum; Welcoming Reception; Gala Dinner; exchange program and communication activities in order to introduce Vietnam as a potential destination of investment as well as to promote the image of our country, people and culture to all international friends in the Summit.

The decision to choose Vietnam as a host country to organize this Summit reflect the highly appreciations of the  Summit Organizing Board to our country. It is a very good chance for us to promote national image, to attract investment and tourism and to introduce our business environment to international friends as well as to help Vietnamese enterprises to meet with potential partners. The Summit will also help Vietnamese businesswomen to communicate, associate, exchange information and management experiences with almost 1,000 participants from 100 countries all over the world, including a great number of transitional corporations.
