Vietnam Women’s Union President Ha Thi Nga on July 19th sent a Letter of Empathy to several European partners over severe flooding that claimed dozens of lives, left thousands missing and damaged many properties.

Last week, severe flooding caused devastation in Germany and Belgium, where the death toll has risen to more than 170 as emergency services continued their search for many hundreds more still missing. No loss of life has been reported in the Netherlands, but several towns were evacuated and thousands were told to leave their homes.

With the deepest sympathy to the affected countries and people, especially the families of those who lost their lives in the incident, Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) President Ha Thi Nga on July 19th sent a Letter of Empathy to its partners in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands over these loses. Frenquently affected by floods and typhoons, the Vietnamese people have deep empathy with the victims of natural disasters, she wrote. As the world is facing an unprecedented challenge posed by the growing COVID-19 pandemic, the VWU hopes that with the authorities’ efforts and the local people’s stamina, the victims will overcome the difficulties to settle down in the soonest.
