Giving “Affection Houses” to women in need - meaningful work of WUs at all levels

Mobilizing resources to build “Affection Houses” and repairing houses for poor women and women with extremely difficult circumstances have been done by WUs across the country over the past years, thereby helping many women have a safe house to live in, feel secure to do business, and get better in life.

- Bac Giang Provincial WU: Giving Affection Houses to single and disabled women

Bac Giang Provincial Women's Union in collaboration with Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company - PNJ Charity Fund organized a ceremony to handover the Affection House to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Khanh's family, Tan Thanh village, Truong Son commune, Luc Nam district.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh is a member of WU. She is single, disabled and poor. She has two sons, Nguyen Cong Tuyen, born in 2000 and Nguyen Xuan Kien, born in 2002. Both of them have to quit the school because of their family's difficulties. She herself is often sick, and unable to work hard. Her family’s main source of income is from the monthly allowance for the disabled (450,000 VND/month) and raising some chickens. Her two children also help her with housework and do seasonal jobs to share the burden with their mothers. She and two children live in a 16 square-meter house supported by mass organizations and authorities since 2000. However, the house has deteriorated seriously.

Considering her difficulty, the provincial Women's Union in coordination with Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company - PNJ Charity Fund supported 45 million VND to build the house. Later on, local authorities, mass organizations and individuals also provided money and working days to build house for her. The total donation was 140,450 million VND of which 127,450 million VND was used for constructing a 52 square-meter house and the rest was given to Mrs. Khanh in the form of a saving book to help stabilize her family life.

WU of Ea H’Leo district, Dak Lak province gives “Affection House” to family of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, poor women member with extremely difficult circumstance at 1A Village, Ea Wy commune.

The house was built with an area of 30 square meters with a total construction cost of 50 million VND, of which the District Women's Union supported 30 million VND from the donation of district women members (5,000 VND/member); the rest is from the family and relatives.

The house is complete with solidly reinforced walls and roof, though not large, but ensures a safe and cozy accommodation for her whole family. This meaningful activity shows the caring and sharing of the women staff and members in Ea H'Leo district for poor and disadvantaged members, contributing to the district’s effort in eradicating dilapidated and temporary houses in the area.
