Program “Supporting women in border and island areas” - Review conference in Dak Lak province

The review conference of the Program “Supporting for women in border and island areas” in the 2018-2020 period were organized recently by Dak Lak Provincial Women Union and the Border Guards.
Individuals and collectives awarded at the conference for their outstanding achievements

As reported at the conference, the Provincial Women’s Union (WU) and the Border Guards have conducted meaningful activities for women and people in border communes within the Program over the past 3 years.

The Women’s Union in cooperation with the Bank for Social Policies and credit institutions has facilitated 864 women to borrow nearly 25 billion VND for cattle raising, fruit trees planting, garment making, etc. The Women’s Union has also provided local women with seedlings, organized knowledge-sharing workshops and training courses, and created jobs for 160 local women with an average income of 5-7 million VND. In the 4 border communes, the Women’s Union has organized health checks and medicine supply, provided computers for schools and presented affectionate houses, water wells and necessities for disadvantaged households, particularly those affected by epidemics and natural disasters.

Within the Program, communication activities have been actively conducted on the Border Regulations, prevention of black credit and human trafficking, promoting new countryside program and cooperation with women organizations in border communes of Mondunkiri province (Cambodia).

The Dak Lak Border Guards has assigned 74 party members to support 334 border households and sponsored 42 poor students, organized literacy classes and held the festival "Solidarity Spring and New Year at the frontier”.

The Program has contributed significantly to improving the socio-economic life in border communes. After 3 years, 165 women-headed households have escaped poverty through the 6+1 model (WU in each commune or town supports 6 poor households headed by women).

Speaking at the conference, VWU Vice President Bui Thi Hoa highly acknowledged the results obtained after 3 years thanks to companionship spirit and consensus among various agencies.

VWU Vice President Bui Thi Hoa proposed the Dak Lak WU further multiply good models and good practices and integrate the Program's activities into other programs to promote socio-economic development and national security in border communes.

At the conference, 31 bicycles, an Affection House and credit loans were given to women were given to disadvantaged student and women.

On this occasion, 17 individuals and 17 collectives were awarded for their outstanding achievements in the Program over the past 3 years ./.
