Thua Thien Hue Women’s Union and projects welcoming 13th National Women’s Congress
From piggy bank to health insurance cards
Ms. Hoang Trang, a member of Dong Ba ward WU, Thua Thien Hue city, has in her coffee shop a piggy bank titled "Welfare piggy - joining hands to fight pandemic". Every day, Ms. Trang invites her coffee shop customers to donate money into the piggy. After nearly a month, Ms. Trang have raised more than 7.5 million VND. With this fund, she and other local WU members gave 25 packages of necessities valued 300,000 VND each to poor households in COVID-19 quarantined and blocked areas.
To the fact that many poor women cannot afford health insurance, Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice President of Thuy Tan Commune WU, Huong Thuy town, has raised fund for this purpose. Ms. Diep has strongly called for cash donation and encouraged women's groups to raise funds through various means such as piggy banks or trash recycling. Thus, Thuy Tan commune WU has been able to give 101 health insurance cards valued more than 10 million VND to poor women.
From poultry raising support to “Gifts of love”
Ms. Pham Thi Phiem received from the Huong Thuy town WU nearly 100 breeding chickens. From this support, she now has a flock of more than 300 chickens to serve the Traditional New Year Festival. She is one of 144 women who have returned home from the southern provinces to avoid the COVID-19 pandemic. These women were supported by the Huong Thuy town WU with thousands of chickens and ducks for breeding in order to help stabilize their life.
According to President of Huong Thuy town WU, this is part of the program "Supporting poor and disadvantaged women and children" to welcome the 13th National Women's Congress. The town WU has given gifts of love to women in difficult circumstances and serious illness, COVID-19 quick test kits to petty traders, and scholarships to poor students affected by COVID-19 with the total value of 300 million VND.
The Provincial WU has just implemented the program "Joining hands for COVID-19 prevention", giving 736 million VND-worth essential necessities to women members who have lost their jobs and income due to the epidemic. Online learning equipments have also been given to pupils in remote areas.

At the end of this emulation movement, each district or town WU will introduce an outstanding project, either collective or individual one, to be appraised by Provincial WU and proposed for appraisal by the Central VWU on the occasion of March 8th, 2022 at the eve of the 13th National Women's Congress.
