Value chains linked production - initial results to support women’s participation in the collective economy

14/08/2020
Implementing the policy of supporting collective economy, 12 cooperatives of value chains linked production participating in the 2019 Women's Startup Day have been provided with equipment, machinery, seedlings and fertilizers by the Central Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) through the National Target Program for New Rural Development’s budget.

After 1 year of operation, cooperatives have been received high appreciation and support from the authorities at all levels, their members and women. Besides the Central VWU’s budget, some cooperatives also get local resource support, such as website development for Loc Hiep Goat Breeding cooperative - Binh Phuoc province; expansion of production area for Trung Thanh Organic Agricultural Services cooperatives - Yen Bai province, Da Mai vermicelli rice cooperative - Bac Giang province and the Herbal Plant cooperative - Nam Dinh province...

Moreover, a number of food production cooperatives have been granted the certificate of food hygiene and safety, trace verified and labels, such as Phu Khuong Seafood Processing cooperative - Ha Tinh province, Nam Anh cooperative - Nghe An province, Herbal Planting cooperative - Nam Dinh province, 3T Cao Phong Agricultural cooperative - Hoa Binh province and Trung Thanh Organic Agriculture cooperative - Yen Bai province...

From the success of the value chain model, cooperatives actively scale up production, production area and attract more and more members. As a result, 03 out of 12 cooperatives participating in the 2019 Women's Startup Day were selected as local products of the OCOP program (One Commune One Product), namely Phu Khuong Seafood Processing cooperative - Ha Tinh province, Da Mai vermicelli rice cooperative - Bac Giang province and 3T Cao Phong Agricultural cooperative - Hoa Binh Province.

The value chain linked production has made significant contribution to the development of collective economy, helping cooperatives to link to production for both input and output of products, and increase its revenue and profits as well. Their members' income has also increased, around VND 4 million - VND 7 million per person per month on average. Those outcomes have shown the effectiveness of activities to support the formulation of cooperative models run by women, contributing to the implementation of VWU’s task to assist women's economic development and spreading the benevolent meaning of collective economy model.
