Vietnam Women's Union mobilizes resources to support women and people in COVID-19 hotspots

On the afternoon of May 27th, the Central Vietnam Women's Union organized a ceremony to receive donations from organizations, businesses, and individuals to promptly support women and people who are affected severely by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On behalf of VWU leaders, President Ha Thi Nga expressed her gratitude and sincere thanks to donors, businesses and philanthropists who have joined hands and given valuable support to the anti-epidemic frontline forces, VWU members, women and people in hospitals, lockdown, and quarantine areas. VWU President affirmed that the resources mobilized through the VWU show the trust and support for women's movement and the VWU’s activities at all levels.

The VWU received cash and in-kind donations such as face masks, hand sanitizers, necessities of life etc. So far, the money and gifts having been sent directly to the VWU at all levels and people in the pandemic-hit localities are worth VND 34 billion (including nearly VND 12 billion and VND 22 billion mobilized by the Central VWU and local WUs respectively).

Unilever Company donates VND 10.2 billion (Lifebuoy hand sanitizers)

 

It is noteworthy to mention the donations from Belgian Embassy (rice worth EURO 10,000), Unilever Company (Lifebuoy antibacterial hand sanitizers worth VND 10.2 billion), Zott Vietnam Company Limited (German cheese products worth VND 555.6 million), Coca-Cola Vietnam Beverage Company Limited (soft drinks worth VND 150 million), Heart Connection Club (54,000 medical masks worth VND 360 million), US Global Health Care Company Abbott (VND 124 million), Thanh Hoa Provincial Women's Union (VND 50 million), Lao Cai Provincial Women's Union (VND 10 million), Ms. Dang Thi Bao Tram (VND 10 million) etc.

In response to the appeals of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, on the morning of May 31st, VWU President also called on VWU staff to donate for COVID-19 prevention and control, promoting Vietnamese people's tradition of mutual assistance. This call shows the VWU’s affection for and sense of responsibility towards people and frontline forces in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

VWU Leader pledged that with the prestige and responsibility of the VWU, the collected money and in-kind donations will be directly transferred to frontline forces, VWU members, women, and people in the pandemic hotspots, aiming at joining hands with the entire political system to overcome the difficulties and challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
