Vietnam Women’s Union delegation visited German

Under the cooperation framework of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the German Savings Banks Foundation and the Agriculture and Rural Development Bank of Philippine (CARD Bank), (which is funded by the Federal German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development), a delegation of the Vietnam Women’s Union, led by Mme. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, Vice President of the Vietnam Women’s Union made a working visit to Germany from 20 June to 1 July, 2005.

In a meeting with representatives from German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the delegation had a briefing o­n the progress of the Ministry-funded project. Taking this opportunity, Mme. Hoa discussed the situation of Vietnamese women and the achievements of the Vietnamese women thus far in the development of the country.The two sides expressed their belief in the successful implementation of the project and future cooperation between VWU and other Germany organizations.

 

At the meetings with the Committee for Economic Cooperation and the Committee for Family, Elderly, Youth and Women, the delegation discussed the activities of VWU, especially those in poverty alleviation and promotion of gender equality in Vietnam. The delegation studied some experiences of their German friends in formulating and implementing gender equality law in Germany.The VWU’sactivities in micro credit were highly regarded by their German partner as a useful tool for women to reduce and eradicate poverty and improve their status in their family and society.

 

On this occasion, the delegation also visited the Vietnamese Embassy to Germany and informed the Ambassador o­n the cooperative program between VWU and some organizations in Germany, including the project with the German Savings Bank Foundation.

 
The visit achieved its objectives and opened the door for new opportunities of cooperation and information and experience sharing with some development and women’s organizations in Germany.
