Women advancement is the task of the whole political system

That is the affirmation of the Politburo Member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and Head of the People's Mobilization Department Truong Thi Mai at the symposium on mobilizing women mobilization in the new situation organized by the Vietnam Women's Union in the afternoon of 17th July.

On 17th of July 2018, the Vietnam Women's Union organized a symposium entitled "The mobilization of women in the new situation" to evaluate the five-year implementation of the Resolution No. 25-NQ/TW of the 11th Party Central Committee o­n strengthening and renewing the Party’s leadership towards the mobilization of the masses in the new situation.

Attending the meeting were Mme. Truong Thi Mai - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the People's Committee, Mr. Le Vinh Tan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Home Affairs, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha - Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Women's Union, and representatives from the Party Central Commissions, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, central and provincial agencies, and various experts based in Hanoi.

Reporting the results achieved by the VWU in implementating Resolution No. 25 in the past five years, President Nguyen Thi Thu Ha affirms that WUs at all levels have been actively and creatively in communicating and carrying out the resolution, in which focusing o­n gathering, mobilizing and supporting women. Currently, the VWU has 19 million women members and the majority of them are rural and ethnic minority women aged from 31 to 54. Fully aware of the Women’s Union’s tasks inrepresenting and protecting women’s legitimate rights and interests, the WUs at different levels have been active in mobilizing and attracting women to participate in WU’s activities and observe lines and policies of the Party and State. Besides, WU’s working methods have been improved with greater attention paid to broadening the Union’s coalition, coordination, and attracting contribution by the whole society.

Remarks and video clips introducing the different WU’s operation models illustrate the results achieved by VWU in mobilizing and supporting women for the recent years. Many delegates have enthusiastically proposed and recommended practical measures to enhance the WU’s role and promote the women’s work.

Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Le Vinh Tan highly appreciates the VWU’s efforts to implement the Resolution No. 25. To mobilize women in the new situation, the Minister suggests the VWU coordinate with the Fatherland Front and other socio-political organizations to increase its strength and promote the local WU’s creativity. He also proposes coordinated activities between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the VWU, including conducting research and creating conditions for women's organizations to participate in state management, guiding WUs at all levels to take part in monitoring the implementation of the resolutions; implementing the Prime Minister's Decision No. 515-QD/TTg approving the Project o­n implementation of measures to ensure gender equality for female cadres and civil servants in the 2016-2020 period, studying and giving recommendations o­n the issue of female workers in non-state enterprises, especially women laborers who loose their jobs in their thirties.

Addressing the Symposium, H.E. Mrs. Truong Thi Mai affirms that the most important task of the socio-political organizations is to mobilize the people as assigned by the Party. The VWU’s task is to mobilize and attract women from all walks of life, taking care of women's legitimate rights and interests, participating in Party building, state management, and promoting the women’s development and gender equality. Regarding the mobilization of women in the new situation, she requests the VWU to attach the mobilization work in the development process and analyze the challenges affecting women to find out the appropriate and practical solutions. WUs at all levels must also proactively give recommendations, supervision and social counter arguments to policies, especially the o­nes related to women and children. She also affirms that paying attention to women’s work is the responsibility of the whole political system under the leadership of the Party. All agencies and their heads must be involved in promoting women’s advancement. The VWU must serve as an active coordinator in the political system and take advantage of the Party leadership to promote women’s advancement.
