The VWU’s Presidium in Ho Chi Minh City hosted a conference titled “Marital Issue’s Between Vietnamese Women and Foreigners”. Taking place on June, 9 – 10, 2006, the conference came up with 6 suggestions to the Party and the Government, as follows:

Mrs. Tran Thi Mai Huong, Standing Vice President of National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam (National Committee), Member of the Presidium of Vietnam Women’s Union, was invited to give a speech.

On the Day for Martyrs and War Invalids, 27 July, all levels of the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union organized many practical activities to mark the occasion.

In the morning of July 17, 2006, on the Day for Martyrs and War Invalids, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union examined and delivered medicine to 100 martyrs’ mothers in Cu Chi district free of charge.

In July 20, 2006, Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union opened a training class “Consultative skills for abused children” to 30 staffs of Supporting Center for Women and Children in need and social collaborators in community aiming to equip knowledge and skills in the process of accessing and consulting psychological treatment for abused children.

Three 12th graders from Ha Noi left their home city on Aug. 15 for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) to be held in Sweden from Aug. 19-26.

In the morning of 30 June 2006, the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union and the Ho Chi Minh City Police held a midterm Reviewconference on implementing the joint- resolution on “Managing and Educating Our Juniors Not to Commit Sins and Social Evils”

Eight government working groups will visit five border provinces this month to investigate allegations of trafficking of women and children.

Ha Noi Moi (New Ha Noi) newspaper spoke to the director of the Ha Noi Health Department, Pham Le Tuan, about issues arising since the Government extended free health care services to all children aged under six years.

A Swiss woman, Susanne Schupfer, President of the Association in Support of Vietnamese Children, has been presented with the insignia, "For Peace and Friendship among Peoples", by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations.
