789 delegates attend first working session of 14th National Women's Congress
Delegates elect the Presidium, Secretariat and Delegate Eligibility Verification Committee at the congress. Held on June 17-18 with approval from the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, the congress is the highest-level gathering of the Vietnam Women's Union and will set directions for its activities during the next five-year term.
Opening the session, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women's Union, said delegates will focus on organisational and personnel matters, approve the congress agenda and working regulations, and review reports presented to the congress.
One of the session's major tasks was the election of the Presidium, Secretariat and Delegate Eligibility Verification Committee.
On behalf of the 13th-term Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, the organizing board presented a proposed list of 27 delegates for the Presidium. The nominees included union officials, representatives of ministries, sectors and localities, as well as women from various social groups, religious organisations, the armed forces, academia and the business community.
All delegates present voted to approve the proposed 27-member Presidium. The congress also elected a three-member Secretariat and a nine-member Delegate Eligibility Verification Committee.
Delegates also heard a report reviewing the performance of the 13th-term Central Executive Committee, including its implementation of resolutions adopted at the previous National Women's Congress and lessons learned from the Vietnam Women's Union activities during the 2022-2026 term.
The delegate composition reflects broad representation across Vietnamese society. Among them are 157 representatives from ethnic minority communities covering 53 ethnic groups, accounting for 19.8% of delegates, and 26 representatives of religious organisations, including Buddhism, Catholicism, Cao Dai, Hoa Hao Buddhism, Protestantism, Islam and Brahmanism.
The congress will continue with discussions on policy documents and personnel matters related to the 14th-term Central Executive Committee before adopting its final resolution.
It is expected to adopt key directions for the next term and encourage greater participation by women in innovation, integration and sustainable national development.
