Present at the ceremony were Mme. Ha Thi Khiet, member of the Central Party Committee, President of Vietnam Women’s Union, Chairwoman of the National Committee for the Advancement of Women in Vietnam; Mme. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Vice President of Vietnam Women’s Union; representatives of HIV/AIDS Prevention & Control Department and international organizations, as well as representatives of different departments of the Central VWU.
Born in the United States, Mme. Nancy Fee has been participated in several fields of activities and assuming different tasks in various international organizations. In 2003, she started to work as country coordinator of the United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS in Vietnam. With her rich experience in community-based activities, her activeness and enthusiasm, particularly her affection for the country and people of Vietnam, during her 3 year term in Vietnam, she has made great contributions for the promotion of AIDS prevention and control in Vietnam. She has also actively taken part in completing the Vietnam National Strategy on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control for the period of 2005-2010 and its vision to 2020, programs to improve the leadership capacity on HIV/AIDS prevention for a number of Party’s and State’s agencies.
To the Vietnam Women’s Union, she has showed her strong support to its staff and members in their HIV/AIDS prevention activities. She has actively involved in promoting gender equality and providing care and support to people living with HIV; provided support to enable VWU’s leaders to participate in several important international and national forums on HIV/AIDS, thereby making active contributions to VWU’s programs on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, as well as the development of its Plan of Action on HIV/AISD Prevention.
To acknowledge her valuable contributions, the Vietnam Women’s Union conferred the Merit Medal “For the Development of Women in Vietnam”on Mme. Nancy Fee.
