Conferring VWU Merit Medal "For the Development of Vietnamese Women" on UN Women Country Representative in Vietnam

On 27 June 2017, Ms. Shoko Ishikawa, UN Women Country Representative in Viet Nam was conferred the merit medal "For the Development of Vietnamese Women" by Vietnam Women’s Union President.

On behalf of VWU Presidium, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, member of Vietnam Communist Party Central Committee, VWU President showed high appreciation of the active support for and cooperation with the VWU from UNWOMEN in Vietnam and Ms. Shoko Ishikawa personally in variousfields though joint projects, activities and events including the project "Strengthening Women's Capacity in Disaster Risk Reduction to Cope with Climate Change”; Women's Innovation Day; Project “Strengthening capacity of the VWU to promote gender-responsive policies and programs” and others in gender in economy and social protection, prevention of violence against women and girls, environmental sanitation, nutrition, food security...


 
VWU President also wished Ms Shoko success o­n here new position of the UN Women Representative in Bangladesh, and hoped she would continue making significant contribution to promoting relations between UN agencies in Viet Nam as well as international organizations with the VWU.

Ms. Shoko thanked the VWU and showed her high appreciation of the VWU’s strong leadership in protecting women’s rights and interests as well as proposing and advocating various policies for gender equality and women empowerment.


"UN Women is committed to continue being a partner of the VWU, supporting its efforts to make difference to women and girls’ lives as well as to advise and propose policies to the Party and State in an effective way, "said Ms. Shoko Ishikawa.

 

At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha also presented Certificate of Merit to Ms. Vu Phuong Ly – Senior Program Officer of UN Women in Vietnam for her active support and coordination with the VWU in jointed activities in the term 2012-2017, particularly the project “Strengthening capacity of Vietnam Women’s Union to promote gender responsive policies and programs”; her close coordination with and technical support for the VWU in organizing such events as the International Forum o­n Women, Peace and Development; her active efforts in connecting the VWU with international partners, especially the Informal Ambassadors and Heads of Agencies Gender Policy Coordination Group, a high-level informal group with a purpose of formulating and jointly advocatingcommon positions of the international community o­n priority gender issues.
