COVID- 19 from gender perspective: Women experiences and policy responses in South Korea and Vietnam

On August 24, the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) and the Korean Women’s Development Institute (KWDI) co-organized the 9th Vietnam - Korea Women's Forum with the theme "COVID-19 from a gender perspective: Women's experiences and policy responses in South Korea and Vietnam". The forum was held in a hybrid format in Hanoi and Seoul.

The event contributes to enhancing the understanding and cooperation between women and people of the two countries. It is also an activity to practically celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and South Korea. (December 22, 1992 - December 22, 2022).

Speaking at the forum, VWU Vice President Tran Lan Phuong considered this forum a good opportunity for Vietnamese and South Korean partners to share the experiences of women during the COVID-19 pandemic, to learn from each other for more gender-sensitive policies and to explore cooperation possibilities.

Ms. Moon Yoo-Kyung, KWDI’s President, saw the forum as a meaningful event for Vietnam and Korea to look forward to a better future in the post-COVID-19 era, contributing to the development of policies on women of the two countries.

Delegates in Hanoi

At the forum, the delegates spoke about the challenges faced by and contributions of women during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initiatives on women’s policies were also shared in the forum, including policy impact of the COVID-19 economic crisis on the female labor market, the VWU's initiatives during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, impact of COVID-19 on domestic violence, post-pandemic economic recovery, implementation of Vietnam's new normal regulations, and many recommendations accordingly.

The 9th Vietnam - Korea Women's Forum demonstrated the effective and practical contributions by women to the strategic partnership between Vietnam and South Korea, and the potential in the cooperation between the VWU and Korean partners, particularly the KWDI.
