Milestones VWU's patriotic emulation movement (2001 to 2005)

More than 344,000 poor female-headed households benefited from VWU’s assistance in hunger eradication, poverty alleviation and economic development.

Among them, over 114,000 households were able to overcome the poverty level.

  

- Women raised a VND 30 billion donation to construct new houses for poor and disadvantaged women. Responding to the movement of "Women nationwide are directed toward DienBien", in o­nly o­ne month, Vietnamese women donated VND 1 billion to build over 200 houses for poor women in the two provinces of LaiChau and DienBien.

-Vietnamese women mobilized VND 134 billion to support revolutionary families and poor women. Women in HoChiMinh City raised donations to grant 45,000 scholarships for poor pupils.

 

-Women of all strata have responded to the movement of patriot emulation, and millions of women have joined together to support such campaigns as "Mutual assistance among women in household economic development; Savings for national construction", "Day of savings for poor women", "Assistance for the poor female-headed households", etc. In the last 5 years, VWU guaranteed loans for 12 million women to make a total loan of VND 16,500 billion to develop their households’ economy. The Union worked with related branches and offices to organize training courses o­n new scientific techniques for 13 million women. The model of savings groups now attracts over 2 million women in 150,000 groups nationwide.

 

-The quality of activities at women’s unions from central to local level has been improved continuously. The number of outstanding groups increased o­n a regular basis. In 2005, Vietnam Women’s Union has over 11 million members nationwide, an increase of nearly 2 million members from the year of 2000.

 

-Unions at different levels were awarded 57 medals of Independence, 166 medals of Labor, 61 emulating flags and 518 congratulatory certificates by the Government. 3 outstanding individuals and 3 groups were praised as Innovative Heroines. 8 million members of Women>s Union gained a grade of "excellent" in the emulating movement.
