Model “Family Without Malnourished Children” in Lao Cai

Coc My commune, Bat Xat district was selected to pilot the model “Family Without Malnourished Children”.

In the process of building this model, Provincial Women’s Union coordinated with Center for Mothers – Children Health Care and Protection and Family Planning to organize training classes o­n model’s contents and practical knowledge o­n nutrition for the staff of Women’s Union and Communal Health Office. Communication forms such as pictures and photos, leaflets, materials were also distributed in hamlet’s activities. So far, in Bau Bang hamlet, Coc My commune has had 21 mothers having children under 5 years old participating in the model “Family Without malnourished Children”: Education o­n Mothers – Children Health Care Knowledge, especially nutrition care for pregnant women and children under 5 years old in family and community. Since implementing this model, there hasn’t any new case of malnourished children and mothers or mother and children at health risks.

In the coming time, model “Family Without Malnourished Children” will be reviewed for wider replication o­n other communes in the province.
