Spouse of UN Secretary General visits VWU’s TYM Credit Fund

During UN Secretary General Mr. Kofi Annans official visit to Vietnam, his spouse Mrs. Nane Annan paid a visit to Branch 7 of VWU’s TYM credit fund in Me Linh district, Vinh Phuc province. She attended a meeting with women borrowers at Center 15, Branch 7 and visited 2 women borrowers at their residence.

Receiving Mrs. Annan were Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, member of the Party Central Committee, VWU Vice-president; leaders of Me Linh district; TYM staff members and Me Linh villagers.

 

During her field trip, Mrs. Annan paid a tribute to Trung Sisters Temple, which is being renovated with donations by women and people nationwide as well as the VWU. In the temple dedicated to the two national heroines, Mrs. Annan expressed her admiration to the Vietnamese people’s and women’s tradition of fighting for independence.

 
At Branch 7 in Me Linh district, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa briefed Mrs. Nane Annan of the VWU organization and its achievements in various fields for gender equality and women’s advancement, including law and policies, reproductive health, family welfare, combating social problems, poverty reduction and economic development. In the latter, TYM Fund is a successful model recognized by international organizations and projected by the VWU to become a professional self-sustainable financial institution in the long run.

Mrs. Nane Annan especially enjoyed attending the borrowers meeting and talking with the local women. Visiting two borrower families, she presented gifts and encouraged the families to overcome challenges to build up their life.

 

After the meeting with VWU leaders and the field trip, Mrs. Annan expressed her thanks to the hospitality of the VWU and the local people. Mr. Kofi Annan and she highly appreciate the active role and contribution by the Vietnamese women to national development, she said.
