Training on gender knowledge and gender mainstreaming in policy formulation to support the development of women enterprises and private sector

Within the project component “ Capacity building for the formulation policy recommendations” funded by Netherlands, at the end of August and early September 2005, Vietnam Women’s Union conducted 3 training courses on “Training on gender knowledge and gender mainstreaming in policy formulation to support the development of women enterprises and private sector” for 130 WU’s officers at provincial and central levels.

These training courses aimed not o­nly to equip the basic knowledge for participants so that they continue to attend advanced courses o­n improving their capacity to formulate the policy recommendations, but also to make networks in this area.

 

Each training course was conducted with lectures and paticipatory approach and lasted for 4 days focusing o­n the basic knowledge of enterprises, policy, law and skills of gender mainstreaming with the training methods of lecturing and participatory.

 

From 21st to 26th September 2005, 43 participants who were selected from the above 3 training courses, attended the first advanced training course o­nGender mainstreaming in formulating policy to support the development of small and micro enterprises. o­ne international expert from Institute of Social Science, Netherlands and two Vietnamese experts were invited to conduct this course.

 

The participants were provided the knowledge o­n macro economy, gender and economic policy, gender and the development of private sector, gender barriers and the development of small and micro enterprises, and equality in the development of the private sector.

 

Tentatively in 2006 there will be 2 officers from the Central Women’s Union selected for the short-course in Netherlands and other 25 participants for local training. Other participants will be provided the materials and invited to other similar training conducted by the Central level in the coming years.
