Vietnamese and South African women in leadership and international integration

On the afternoon of August 30, 2022, the Vietnam Women's Union and the Embassy of South Africa in Vietnam co-hosted a hybrid seminar “Vietnamese and South African women in leadership and international integration” to enhance understanding and cooperation between women and people of Vietnam and South Africa.

​The seminar was co-chaired by the VWU Vice President Nguyen Thi Minh Huong and Ambassador of South Africa to Vietnam Vuyiswa Tulelo with the online and in person participation of more than 50 representatives from both sides. The seminar focused on two topics: women in leadership and women in international integration and at the same time sharing information, experiences of the two countries’ women.

​In her opening remark, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, VWU Vice President affirmed: “Vietnam and South Africa have a good traditional friendship. Although geographically far apart, the two countries have sympathy and support for each other in the struggle for national independence and self-determination as well as in the national development today”.

Ms. Vuyiswa Tulelo, South African Ambassador to Vietnam, highly appreciated the role of Vietnamese women and women’s movements in the cause of national development, gender equality and women empowerment.

​At the seminar, the participants shared the achievements, contributions as well as challenges of the two countries’ women in leadership and international integration. They also discussed policies and key measures to promote gender equality, women’s participation in politics and international integration, capacity building training for women, and the ability to strengthen connection and cooperation between women of the two countries in the coming time, contributing to strengthening the good friendship relation between Vietnam and South Africa.

The Vietnam Women's Union also wishes, through South African women, to promote relationship with women from other African countries. At the same time, the VWU is also ready to connect South African women with ASEAN women.
