Vietnamese, Cambodian women boost cooperation

Women organisations of Viet Nam and Cambodia will closely join in programmes for their common targets of gender equality, poverty reduction, women's health, and prevention of maltreatment to women and children.

An agreement for cooperation in the 2007-2010 period was signed at a ceremony held by the Viet Nam Women's Union (VWU) and the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development Association (CWPD) in Phnom Penh o­n Jan. 26.

Under the agreement, the women organisations in An Giang, Tay Ninh and Dong Thap provinces of Viet Nam, and Takeo, Kandal, Prey Veng, Kompong Cham and Svay Rieng provinces of Cambodia will exchange experiences in organising women-related activities and join in cooperative programmes for socio-economic development, women's health care, and prevention of social evils and human trafficking through border gates. The organisations will help their members have better understanding of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Border Delimitation Treaty in order to raise their responsibilities of protecting border areas.

On the occasion, Truong Thi Khue, VWU Vice Chairwoman, and Men Sam o­n, Senior Minister of the National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, CWPD Chairwoman, cut the ribbon to open representative offices of two Vietnamese and Cambodian tourist companies that belongs to the VWU and the CWPD. These two tourist companies will together open tours of Viet Nam, Cambodia as well as tours to Laos and Thailand.
