VWU President confers Merit Medal “For the Development of Vietnamese women” on Ambassador of Cuba in Vietnam
During her term in Vietnam, Mrs. Lianys Torres Rivera, has made many contributions to the relationship of Vietnam and Cuba in general and the women of the two countries in particular.
Mrs. Nga said at the meeting that with the support of Mrs. Lianys Torres Rivera, the relationship between the two Women’s Unions has had important development over the past few years. For example, the information exchange between the two Women’s Unions has been very timely and smoothly. Particularly the Vietnam Women's Union and Cuba Women’s Federation (FMC) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for the period 2018-2022.
Mrs. Nga also thanked the Cuban Ambassador in Vietnam for her support and enthusiastic participation in the activities of the VWU and the two Women's Unions, especially on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Vietnam – Cuba relations, VWU’s 90th anniversary and FMC’s 60th anniversary in 2020.

At the meeting, the VWU President informed Mrs. Lianys Torres Rivera about the achievements of Vietnamese women in recent years including an increase of female representatives in the local Party’s committees for the term 2020-2025 (e.g: 9 secretaries of the provincial Party Committee compared to 2 at the beginning of the previous term; a 4.2 % increase of women representing in the communal Party’s Committee).
Highlighting the efforts of VWU at all levels, Mrs. Lianys Torres Rivera conveyed a warm greeting from the FMC’s Secretary General to the VWU President, congratulating the VWU on its 90th anniversary. She expressed her great honor to work with the VWU during her time in Vietnam and hoped that the Women's Unions of the two countries would further cooperate to promote the role and contribution of women in the family and society.
