The United Nations agency charged with gender equality and women’s empowerment today presented concrete areas of focus and goals for the three-day, high-level meeting on AIDS which begins at UN Headquarters tomorrow.

22 February 2010 – The United Nations launched a new effort today to expand its partnership with the private sector and philanthropies in the battle for complete gender equality and the empowerment of women, not only as a necessary human right but as economic common sense as well.

Vietnamese business women were applauded by State President Nguyễn Minh Triết for their great contributions to helping the local economy overcome.

New report and HIV-positive women’s groups make urgent recommendations for advancing leadership of women living with HIV

Under the framework of the project: “Enhancing Women and Children’s Rights” funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Huong Son District Women’s Union, (Ha Tinh province) in cooperation with Ha Tinh Provincial Women’s Union and the Women’s Unions in four communes: Son Giang, Son Ham, Son Trung and Son Linh organized four workshops on “Proposing measures to support children who are poor and living in difficult situations” from June 8th to 11th, 2010.

Recently, with the support of the Local Coordinating Board of the Program for Supporting Enterprise Sector, the Component 1, under the project of Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Khanh Hoa provincial Women’s Union organized the training on “Gender issues in the small and medium businesses” for 140 participants from the local and provincial departments, agencies, mass organizations, managers, WU cadres and enterprises in the province.

On 21st June, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, Member of the Central Communist Party and President of Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU), and Mrs. Hoang Thi Ai Nhien, Vice-President of VWU paid visits and congratulated Nhan Dan Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency, Vietnam Television, Voices of Vietnam, Vietnam Journalists Association, Communist Review, and Hanoi Women Newspaper on the 85th Anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism Day.

On 10th June 2010, The Central Vietnam Women’s Union held a meeting for the female members of the XII National Assembly at the Center for Women and Development, 20 Thuy Khue Street, Ha Noi.

Recently, a delegation from the TYM Fund attended the workshop on combining health protection with microfinance activities which was organized in the Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (CARD), in the Philippines. There were 20 participants of 9 microfinance organizations from Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam.

On the morning of 22nd of April 2010, with the support of the Presidium of the Central Vietnam Women’s Union, Da Nang Women’s Union conducted a training course to improve local women cadres’ capacity in organizing communicative activities on community-based criminal preventions.

On the morning of April 5th, 2010, the Women’s Academy of Vietnam Women’s Union opened the refresher training course named “Professional Training on Women’s Works for VWU’s Full Time Staffs at Provincial/Municipal and District Levels in Northern Provinces.”

Vice-President of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) Nguyen Thi Kim Thuy together with representatives from relevant departments of the Central VWU received a 16-member delegation of the United Federation of Danish Workers (a.k.a. 3F) on 12 April, 2010.

From March 30 to April 10, 2010, a delegation of Vietnam Women’s Union, headed by President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, paid a visit to 3 Eastern European countries of Russia, Belarus and Czech Republic.

During 2 days of 15th – 16th of April 2010, Vietnam Women’s Union in collaboration with Oxfam and Disaster Management Center, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development organized the Orientation Workshop on Disaster Risk Management and Response to Climate change in Vietnam.

First I want to express my deepest appreciation to the Government of Vietnam for conferring the Friendship Medal. To both Ann and me, our work with our Vietnamese friends and colleagues during 16 visits to Vietnam, starting in 1978, has been tremendously stimulating and satisfying. Since the time of our youth, to us -- as to millions of others of our generation throughout the world -- Vietnam has been an example of great courage and achievement under the most difficult circumstances imaginable.

At the 25th Anniversary of Kovalevskaia Prize in Vietnam

 

On March 12th, 2010, the Kovalevskaia Prize Committee in Vietnam organized the 25th Anniversary of the Kovalevskaia Prize in Vietnam and held the Kovalevskaia Award Ceremony to 3 individuals for years 2008 and 2009.

On March 7, the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) celebrated the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and the 1970th anniversary of Trung Sisters (Hai Ba Trung) uprising.

The Executive Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union has declared 2010 to be the year of active participation in the special emulations; improvement of the activity quality of the organization and effectively implementation of the VWU’s mandate of representing and protecting women’s legitimate rights.
