The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) is a socio-political organization which was established by the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1930. The VWU’s rights and responsibilities are regulated by the Constitution and laws of Vietnam.

The VWU’s functions are to represent, care for and protect the legitimate and legal rights and interests of women from all walks of life, participate in the Party-building and State management, unite women and encourage them to follow the line and orientation of the Party and the policies and laws of the State, and mobilize the society to realize gender equality.
The VWU is a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF), and the ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organizations (ACWO).
Since its establishment, the VWU has united, mobilized and broadly gathered women of all strata to promote the fine traditions of the Vietnamese women, contributing to the construction and protection of the country.
For more than 90 years of development, the VWU has organized 13 National Women’s Congresses. The 13th National Women’s Congress (2022-2027 period) was organized at the National Convention Center in Hanoi from 9th– 11th March 2022.
