“Railway of Flowers”: Spreading Green for a Sustainable Environment and Gender Equality

The event was attended by Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women’s Union, along with Vice Presidents Tran Lan Phuong, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, and Nguyen Thi Thu Hien. Also present were Dang Sy Manh, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Members' Council of the Vietnam Railways Corporation, as well as representatives from the central departments and units of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the leadership of the Vietnam Railways Corporation, and the Hanoi Women’s Union.
Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women’s Union, highlighted the success of the “Railway of Flowers” campaign launched in 2024. Initiated by the Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) and embraced by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) across 11 provinces and cities along the railway network, the initiative has helped beautify train stations, raise public awareness, and protect railway safety corridors. It has also effectively supported the implementation of the “Building Families with Five Nos, Three Cleans and Five Haves, Three Cleans” campaign, in connection with the development of new-style rural areas, advanced rural areas, and model rural communities contributing meaningfully to local rural development programs.
Women from Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Nam Dinh, Phu Tho, Khanh Hoa, and Binh Duong have actively participated in planting and caring for flowers along railways. “This project proves that women are not just the caretakers of families, but active agents in infrastructure development, environmental protection, and cultural enrichment,” Tuyen affirmed.
A Milestone for Strategic Cooperation
The newly signed 2025–2030 cooperation Program marks a milestone in the strategic alliance between the VWU-a socio-political organization with a 95-year foundation&development-and the VNR, a state enterprise with over 70 years of history. This partnership shared values centered on sustainable development, women’s empowerment, and the transformation of over 3,000 km of railway into the longest “flower route” in Vietnam, promoting both tourism and environmental awareness.
Leaders of Both Parties Sign Joint Program for 2025-2030
Ms.Tuyen expressed hope that this collaboration would enhance women's roles in community engagement, environmental law compliance, and participation in major national railway projects. The program aligns with the Party’s Conclusion No. 49-KL/TW (2023) on railway development by 2030, and multiple National Assembly Resolutions on high-speed rail, the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong railway, and special urban railway development policies for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
“A Flower for Every Track, a Destination at Every Station”
Dang Sy Manh, Party Secretary and Chairman of VNR, praised the campaign’s strong community support. Since its launch in March 2023, more than 200 kilometers of tracks across hundreds of locations have been transformed with flower gardens. He emphasized the railway's unique position as both a cultural symbol and a sustainable tourism asset, with scenic routes recognized globally as among the most beautiful and worthwhile journeys.
