International community urged to assist 61 poor districts

A forum on co-operative relations in deploying a progarmme on assisting poor districts was organised by the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare in Hanoi on March 18.

Representatives of some ministries, the UN and many other international organizations participated in the forum.

Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Welfare Nguyen Thanh Hoa introduced the main contents of the Government’s Resolution o­n assisting 61 poor districts in some fields such as capital, project development at the grassroots level, infrastructure, business and production planning, job creation and at the same time, called upon international organisations to continue to help Vietnam in the hunger eradication and poverty reduction with a current focus o­n the poorest districts in the country.

Addressing the forum, John Hendra, United Nations Co-ordinator in Vietnam and representatives of some international organizations applauded the Vietnamese Government’s policy o­n assisting 61 poor districts amid economic difficulties facing the country, which aims to help those districts to escape poverty.

They pledged to continue to assist Vietnam with their experiences, technologies and funds for the implementation of the hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the coming time.
