Pilgrims attend Ponagar Festival

Hundreds of local authorities and residents, and more than 600 Cham ethnic minority people from all parts of the country gathered in central Khanh Hoa province's Ponagar Tower Relic to attend the Goddess Ponagar Festival 2006 which opened on April 19 (the 22nd of the third month of the lunar year).

During the festival, 22 delegations from Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Dac Lac, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Lam Dong and Binh Dinh provinces will come to give offerings and art performances to pilgrims.


The Museum of South Vietnamese Women will organise an exhibition o­n Vietnamese ethnic groups' religious beliefs with nearly 100 pictures, photos and artifacts.

 

The Goddess Ponagar Festival is held annually to preserve and develop the nation's traditional values, serving the spiritual and religious demands of local people and pilgrims. It also represents the solidarity and cultural exchange among the ethnic communities.
