Viet Nam, Cambodia Aim to End People Trafficking

A meeting on anti - trafficking was jointly held by the Ministry of Public Security and the Cambodian Ministry of the Internal Affairs at Ho Chi Minh City.

The Viet Nam - Cambodia Cross Border Law Enforcement Cooperation Meeting o­n Trafficking in Persons was convened to strengthen the relation and further enhance the cooperation between the two nations in exchange of criminal record information, investigation into people trafficking between the two countries.

The delegates hope to find solutions to arrest and exile the traffickers, protect the victims in the investigative work, and introduce appropriate measures to end people trafficking.

A recent data revealed that over 700,000 people a year are trafficked across international borders and then forced to work as sex workers and forced laborers.

Attending the meeting were Deputy General Director of the Vietnamese People’s Police General Department, lieutenant general Nguyen Viet Thanh and Ms. Un Soukhunthea, head of the Cambodian delegation. 

The meeting opened from May 17 to 18, 2006.
