VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa welcomes U.S Ambassador Ted Osius at Vietnam Women’s Museum
At the meeting, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa provided brief information about current situation of Vietnamese women and acknowledged their great contribution to the national construction and defense as well as about Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in promoting gender equality and women’s advancement in different fields. She also introduced about the VWU’s organizational structure and its activities to fulfill the assigned functions of caring for and protecting Vietnamese women’s legal and legitimate rights and interests and promoting their roles and contributions.
On this occasion, VWU President, on behalf of the Union, expressed her thanks to international friends and partners, including those from the U.S for their support and assistance to Vietnam, especially in women and children related areas over the past time. She highlighted that U.S Embassy in Hanoi and some U.S organizations have provided active support to Vietnam in general, the VWU and Vietnamese women in particular through programs, projects and activities, such as developing handbook for the VWU’s officials working in foreign affairs, developing materials on prevention of trafficking in women, distributing wheelchairs to women with disabilities, presenting scholarships to poor girls having good study results, etc. She invited the Ambassador to visit VWU activity models at the local level and expected that the Ambassador will share with the VWU American experiences in addressing issues related to women and girls. The Ambassador expressed his happiness to visit the Vietnam Women's Museum. He asserted that multi-faceted progress has been made in the relationship between the two countries since the bilateral comprehensive partnership was established. Especially, he emphasized that this year marks 20th anniversary of U.S - Vietnam diplomatic relations with many high-level visits between the two countries.
The Ambassador shared that he found the meeting with VWU President significant as he is fully aware of and highly appreciates the roles of the VWU and Vietnamese women in the cause of national construction and development. He also said that there should be more efforts from both countries to realize the goal of gender equality and women’s advancement. The Ambassador expects that the cooperation between the U.S Embassy and the VWU would be further developed in the coming time.
