09/06/2006
The diary of a fallen Vietnamese doctor-soldier is expected to be published in the Republic of Korea (RoK) in July, Korean newspapers reported.

The book, entitled Dang Thuy Tram’s Diary, has been translated into the Korean language by Dr Ahn Kyong Hwan of the Vietnamese language faculty of the Youngsan University.

Dr Ahn Kyong Hwan said he hoped that the book would teach the RoK's young generations, who have not experienced war, about patriotism, love and the devastation of war.

Many RoK newspapers have carried articles on the book, one of the best-sellers in Vietnam last year, describing it as a vivid example of a love of one's country and passion for revolutionary ideals.

The heroic Vietnamese doctor wrote the diary while she was working at a field hospital in central Quang Ngai province from 1967-1970.

She was killed by US troops in June 1970 at the age of 27.
