Art lovers are in for a treat with the debut of an exhibition of canvas, ceramics and giay do (poonah paper) works by three painters, which has opened in HCM City.

The painters Tran Chi Ly, Nguyen Trong Loc and Vu Hoang Tuan, who are teachers from Dong Nai College of Decorative Art, have all taken part in many group exhibitions.

Chi Ly is displaying 12 paintings on giay do material, all with the theme of Vietnamese woman taking care of children by themselves.

The 40-year-old painter said he wanted to depict women who suffer hardships in life.

Ly uses brown and grey as the dominant colours in his Cuu Mang (Help) painting that shows melancholy women embracing their children.

Trong Loc and Hoang Tuan have taken a different perspective, with eight oil paintings and installation art made with ceramics.

Loc shows his emotions about everyday activities by juxtaposing ceramic plates that hang over items of clothing.

"My works are depicted with the buoyant spirit of the day, filled with sunlight and happiness," Loc said.

Tuan’s canvas Di Ra Di Vao (Going in and out) is painted with bright green and blue, conveying busy days with the stream of people continuously running on the roads.

The exhibition is held at the Blue Space Contemporary Centre, 1A Le Thi Hong Gam Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
