Six authors in Mekong Delta presented Women's Innovation Award for initiatives to improve living environment
The awarding ceremony was held with the online participation from Ha Noi, Ben Tre, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, and Da Nang. The contest is one of the activities of the Project “Community Hygiene and Water - Women-led output-based aid” (WOBA) 2018-2022 and among the series of events on the occasion of the Vietnam Family Day June 28. Launched on May 1, 2020, the contest attracted attention and active response of VWU staff, members, and women at large. Contest ideas can be grouped into four areas on community development, economic/business development, environmental technology and others including education, awareness raising, etc. After two rounds of competition, six best ideas were selected to honor in the ceremony with a total prize value of VND 150 million.
Speaking at the Awarding Ceremony, Ms. Truong Thi Thu Thuy - Project Director, Head of the VWU’s Family and Social Affairs Department - shared that there had been 57 ideas collected through the contest, 15 out of them had been selected for the final round based on creativity, feasibility, application of science and technology, and responsiveness to climate change, etc. Selected ideas from the contest will be implemented in practice.
According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Hanh, Country Director of East Meets West, over the past 3 years, the WOBA project has gained significant achievements. The contest is an opportunity to find and implement creative ideas to improve sanitation and access to clean water for climate change response and social inclusion. The winning authors will receive not only financial aid but also technical support from experts and project staff to implement or replicate their ideas to help solve water and sanitation issues and respond to climate change.
After the contest, the VWU and the East Meets West will continue working closely to support rural and disadvantaged women to have access to basic services such as clean water and sanitation as well as to contribute to the country’s development.

On the same day, the VWU also launched the WOBA website and introduced the Project’s online training programs.
The six winning ideas are: - One first prize: Project "Organic vegetable production combined with drip irrigation technology and agricultural mulch to promote sustainable livelihoods and climate change adaptation" by Ms. Do Thi Dep (Ba Tri district, Ben Tre) - One second prize: Project "Waste becoming nutrition" by Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu (Ba Tri district, Ben Tre). - One third prize: Project "Water after Biogas - A valuable source of fertilizer" by Ms. Le Thi Phuong Thao (Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang). - Three fourth prizes: Project "Financial support for poor, near-poor and disabled households to build clean water sluices" by Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Nhung (Mo Cay Bac district, Ben Tre); Project “Using economical automatic watering system for mini bonsai gardens” by Ms. Huynh Thi Hoa (Ben Tre city)"; and Project "Treatment and reuse of household-scale frog farming waste water for cultivation by drip irrigation system" by Ms. Tran Thi Bich Tuyen (Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap). |
