Tennis: Hanoi win gold in women’s event of National Sports Games

Team Hanoi won a gold medal in the women’s tennis event of the National Sports Games one match ahead, reported Ho Chi Minh City Sports newspaper.

The newspaper reported that four teams, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa and the Army, are competing o­n a round robin basis with two singles and o­ne doubles matches in the women’s event. Hanoi gained crucial victories over their main rivals Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa.

In their meeting with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi’s top player Nguyen Thi Dung lost to Huynh Mai Huynh, but Luong Gia Phung levelled the score with a victory over Tran Thi Tam Hao. In the doubles match, Huynh Mai Huynh and her injured partner Thuy Dan lost to Hanoi’s pair.

In the clash with Khanh Hoa, Hanoi won 2-0 after two singles victories.

Ho Chi Minh City and Khanh Hoa are now competing for the runner-up spot.

Meanwhile, in the men’s event, seven teams were divided into two groups. Four teams Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Soc Trang and Army team have qualified for the semi-finals.
