Thuy takes silver at 39th Bowling Open

Vietnamese bowler Huynh Ngoc Diem Thuy took home a silver medal at the 39th Singapore International Bowling Open on Sunday.



Thuy, from HCM City, who won the gold medal in the Grade A division of the Malaysian Open three months ago, advanced to the final round in the women's Masters, Grade A for the professionals event and came in second for the silver medal.

The Vietnamese player is thrilled with the results as the tournament drew strong bowlers from 20 countries and territories in the world.


Thuy's teammates, Nguyen To Nhu Y and Dinh Minh Dung also qualified for the final round of the Youth Girls and Boys Under-16, respectively. But the two juniors' athletes failed to win medals.


Vietnam
's five-member squad will return home in preparation for the Vietnam International Bowling Open to take place at Sai Gon Superbowl in HCM City from June 24 to July 8.


The event is expected to attract 100 athletes from 10 countries and 150 Vietnamese players with total money prize of US$40,000.


According to the organising committee, the event will be a tough test for Vietnamese athletes when they take o­n top leaders, including Nepomuceno from the Philippines, who has won four world champion titles, three-time Asian champion Remy o­ng from Singapore and Malaysian Sarah Yam, who was the women's world champion in 2003.
