Core members of Women’s Union – foundation for strong women’s movements

Ea Trul is a mountainous commune of Krong Bong district, Dak Lak province with 3,261 inhabitants, 5 ethnic groups and 4 religions including Catholic, Buddhism, Protestantism and Cao Dai.

In the past, activities of Women’s Union in grassroots are poor with low rate of women participated in Vietnam Women’s Union as full members. There are few women who were approached and incited by the delinquents, violated law, thus affecting the general situation of the commune.

 

In this regard, under the leadership of the Commune’s Party Executive Committee and the guidance of Women’s Union in all levels, the Commune Women’s Union has defined its responsibility of developing core members as a motive force for the strong and firm development of women’s movement.

 

During 3 years of implementation, women’s movements of the commune have seen active changes. The rate of membership development out of the total women population has increased from 52% to 68%. For the time being, total women members of the commune are 832, including 258 core members.

 

As the pioneer in activities of the local women’s union and the commune, core women members have actively participated in the communication campaigns to promote the emulation movement “Women actively study, creatively work and nurture happy families”, Union’s key action programs, the guideline and policy of the Party and State o­n ethnics and religions...

 

Through core members, the Union has proactively understood women’s demand and aspiration so as to timely feedback to the upper Unions and related functional sectors to take appropriate action, thus contributing to maintaining the political security of the commune.

 

Moreover, core members are very active in the work of poverty reduction. In such practical forms as supporting money, seeds, breeding animals, knowledge about planting and breeding, core members have helped 35 disadvantaged women in the commune escape from poverty. Many core members take lead in household economic development such as Ms. Ami Le Wia with yearly income of nearly 20 million VND from rice and crops, Ms. Ami Ngue with yearly income of nearly 30 million VND from raising cow with capital borrowed from saving and credit women group...

 

Within 3 years of the implementation of the policy of developing core members, Ea Trul Commune has made active contributions to the achievement of the political task, socio-economic development targets and the strong development of the women’s movements in the commune.
